Our “time of the month” (TOM) isn’t something widely spoken about, but it happens to all of us girls every month and it’s a real pain in the butt, especially when you live on the beach! I found I didn’t feel comfortable in a bikini for that week and just felt a bit gross in general. This affected my kitesurfing, surfing and day to day mood. It also bothered me about how many single-use sanitary products I was throwing in the trash! The average woman throws away 125 – 150kg of tampons, pads and applicators in her lifetime and the use of all these generate more than 200,000 tonnes of waste per year, some of which end up on our beaches. All of this started to get me thinking and I spoke to a friend who suggested the Mooncup! I checked out their website and bought one from my local health and beauty store! Check out my reasons why you should change to a menstrual cup.
Now the name sounds a little strange, I know, but the Mooncup is a reusable menstrual cup made from soft grade silicon that collects fluid instead of absorbing it. Because of this, it doesn’t cause any dryness or irritation and can be removed, rinsed and reinserted up to every 8 hours. The wall of the Mooncup creates a seal meaning no leakage or odour. It can be used overnight, whilst travelling and on and off the water. I can’t even feel that it is there and can confidently wear a bikini and feel so much better!
I could go on for hours but to make it easier, I’ve made some top points that could sway you over! Imagine if every woman changed, how much less waste we would cause! Together we can make a difference…
I’d just like to say, I’m no way endorsed by Mooncup and I went to the shops like any other person and bought it at full price. I genuinely feel that this will make anyones TOM a lot more manageable! It’s not so much of a big ordeal anymore! It’s better for your health, better for the environment, it’s cheaper than other sanitary products and it’s so convenient. If you don’t believe me, head over to their Facebook page or website and read all the great reviews. It’s made a huge change to so many women and I feel not enough people know about it!
